"The Voice of Malaysia's Seafood Industry"
Educating Malaysians on the importance of the tuna & seafood industry and positioning Malaysia as a future regional tuna hub."
Our mission is to educate and advocate for the sustainable growth of Malaysia's tuna & seafood industry as a pillar of food security, economic prosperity, and national development for Malaysia
Why Tuna Is Considered a Strategic Commodity for Many Countries?
When people think of strategic food commodities, they think of palm oil, rice and chicken- few think of Tuna.
Few realize that tuna is also considered a strategic food commodity by many nations around the world.
Global governments do not invest billions into fishing fleets, tuna ports, processing plants, and international fishing agreements simply because people enjoy eating tuna. They do so because tuna plays an important role in food security, national resilience, trade, and emergency preparedness.
For countries with limited agricultural land, the strategic importance of tuna becomes even more significant. Malaysia, for example, has a growing population but finite land resources. Expanding land-based agriculture indefinitely is neither practical nor necessarily sustainable. As a result, marine resources such as tuna can play an important role in diversifying food supplies and strengthening long-term food security.
Why Tuna Is a Strategic Industry for Malaysia's Food Security
The world's population is expected to continue growing in the coming decades, increasing the demand for affordable and nutritious protein sources. Seafood has become one of the most important sources of animal protein globally, providing essential nutrients, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.
Unlike land-based agriculture, which faces increasing challenges from limited land availability, water scarcity, and urbanization, the oceans continue to offer significant opportunities to produce sustainable food resources when managed responsibly.
